I dont believe you're truly for plus sized girls until you post something including sizes 20 and up. You make the rest of us feel like shit. "maybe even up to 18 or 20" seriously?
PLUS Model Magazine teamed up with Re-Dress NYC for an 18+ Model Search two years ago, most magazine and brands do not do. We’ve had numerous models in the magazine ranging from size 12 to 18/20. Unfortunately we have to clothe the models, and designers and brands we work with do not often carry samples in anything larger than a 14, at times we are able to pull a 16 or 18 but it’s very seldom.
This particular model search is not one we are doing alone, but in conjunction with a big brand name that hardly ever uses plus size models at all in their advertising, or visibly plus sized. We have used our influence and our readers voices to impress upon this company the importance of marketing properly to the plus size woman. They are willing to look at the possibility of using not just plus size models but models that are up to a size 18/20.
Larger models do not normally have this opportunity because brands have been using smaller models claiming that WE, the plus size women, do not want to see ourselves in advertisements. I know this is not true, and you know this is not true but the only way to convince them is to show them. By having customers respond in a positive way to using more of a realistic plus size model, the doors will continue to open. This is just the first step of many to be taken, things don’t change overnight and we have been working very hard to be able to present an opportunity like this one.
Buy Now, Wear Later: Six Fall Trends you can wear NOW
What is beautiful about fashion is that while the fall 2011 collections showcased in February, the trends that emerged from the runways have already made their way into the summer collections that you can fashion now and wear later.
As we prepare to change seasons, the fashionista in you has probably already started shopping for the newest items to spruce up your closet. However, shopping for fall can be daunting when it is over 100 degrees outside. So what do you do? How do you take advantage of the sales and promotions for summer AND make use of your pieces through the end of the fall season?
To keep it easy to navigate, we chose six trends that are easily attainable and fashion forward for your curves and pack a punch of fashion options for your wardrobe. Nothing is worse than buying a fabulous item that you can only wear once and it is already out of season. So we have gathered for you some of fall’s top trends that you can wear both right now and later!
Six Fall Trends You Can Wear Now
- Sheer
The sheer trend has lent itself to blouses, skirts, and dresses of all lengths. Demure, playful, darling, and bold; sheer has a sophistication AND a relaxed edge to it when played right.
- Buy now: Wear your sheer tank over a fitted camisole. Fashion that sheer maxi skirt or the sheer pants with hot pants (depending on how much skin you wish to show).
- Wear Later: Layer chunky knit sweaters in the same hue over the sheer maxi skirt/pant or layer tights under your sheer.
- Bold Hues of Orange
One the hottest colors to surface in the summer compliment a variety of complexions and have found itself in a variety of beauty products. Orange, in dresses, pants, tops, and everything in between, is a color that will be a mainstay through fall!
- Buy now: Pair this color with whites and neutrals, letting the orange be the focal color
- Wear Later: Worn with deep camels, browns, and navy pieces will warm up your outfit for fall.
- Tailored Suiting Pieces
Suiting has popped back onto the scene, feminized with tailored jackets, slim legged and boot cut pants, playful button up blouses, and sweet sweaters. With a quick change, your look can go from summer to fall!
- Buy Now: Break up a suit into fun separates for summer. Pair your suit jacket with shorts for a chic evening suit look. Vests and cardigans layered with dresses for summer give your outfit an alternative for a jacket on those cool summer nights.
- Wear Later: Fall suiting paired with feminine layers underneath- suiting gets a nod from menswear with a dash of femininity. Down to the tailored vest, suiting for fall goes full speed ahead.

Plus-Size FashionTips From The Stars Of TLC’S Big Sexy
We can hardly wait for the debut of TLC’s new show, Big Sexy. Five plus size women following their dreams in the Big Apple, I’m sure it’s going to be very entertaining. PMM and City Chic worked with some of the ladies on the show and we are so happy to have been able to share in their journey.
Below are some Fashion Tips, just in time for Fashion’s Night Out and Fashion Week!
Do not avoid tailored, woven fabrics: A lot of plus-size women avoid woven fabric because it has little to no stretch; however, clothing like pencil skirts and tailored jackets make plus-size women look amazing. The tailored look can make you look thinner, more toned and professional. With the sharper lines and better structure, people will take you more seriously. Knitted clothing (which has a lot of stretch) tends to look a bit too casual for most settings. – Audrey Curry, makeup artist and aspiring fashion designer Shoulder pads look awesome on curvy women: Many women generally stay away from shoulder pads, but plus-size women with larger hips should embrace the strong shoulder look. Naturally, a woman’s shoulders should be a little wider than their hips. Shoulder pads, which come in all shapes and sizes, can make a large woman look more proportional and thinner. It’s best to experiment! Shoulder pads can be easily added to existing clothing, such as a blazer or a shirt dress. – Audrey Curry, makeup artist and aspiring fashion designer Deodorant and baby oil are your friends: If you want to avoid the crazy chub-rub between your legs, roll on deodorant or dab baby oil on your inner thighs. You’ll no longer have to wear biker shorts under your dresses! Keep travel sizes in your purse. It does tend to wear off throughout the day. – Tiffany Bank, plus-size model Only wear what makes you happy: If you feel happy, you look happy. Want to wear hot pink lipstick or patent red leather heels? Go for it. Fashion is all about you and how you want to express yourself. I enjoy wearing crazy nail polish because I love colors and colors make me feel good! – Tiffany Bank, plus-size model Do not try to hide your body under big, shapeless clothing: This approach never works. Even with all the material, we still know that you are plus-size. Now you just look frumpy! Instead, wear clothes that define the best parts of your body. Defining your waist with a belt, for example, can accentuate your curves. – Leslie Medlik, fashion stylist Do not follow traditional plus-size fashion rules: A lot of plus-size fashion tips are outdated. Liberate yourself. Follow a few trends that you like and will keep your look current. If you like stripes, go for it. You can wear anything with confidence. Confidence is the key to having great style! – Leslie Medlik, fashion stylist Do not be afraid of stores that don’t typically sell plus sizes: A lot of plus-size women shy away from mainstream stores, in fear that they will not carry clothes in their size. How do you know unless you go in and try? I am a huge fan of Anthrolopologie and can easily pull off a large dress made out of knit or jersey. I can also fit into their XL and L tops. Fit is more important than what the size says. Try everything on before you make the purchase. – Nikki Gomez, plus-size model …but remember to support plus-size designers!: Most plus-size lines are created by plus-size women for plus-size women. These designers understand the issues we have with clothing, and they know that we want to look our best at any size. You have to dress the body you have now. If you embrace your curves and feel good about yourself, you will work even harder to achieve your personal body goals (or just realize how beautiful and sexy you already are!). Plus-size designer brand clothing is not only made for your body, but it also tends to be made better and last longer. – Nikki Gomez, plus-size model The right undergarments are essential: Underwear are essential to dressing and significantly affect the overall look. It is extremely important to have on a great-fitting bra and beautiful panties. According to the Ford Models Blog, Candice Huffine is featured in an editorial in the September Issue of W Magazine.
